The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met at 3:28 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Vice-Chair, Cathy McLeod, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Sylvie Boucher, Lois Brown, Paul Calandra, Nicole Demers, Luc Desnoyers, Irene Mathyssen, Cathy McLeod, Hon. Anita Neville, Michelle Simson and Alice Wong.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Julie Cool, Analyst; Sandra Gruescu, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development: Mary Quinn, Director General, Social Policy and Programs Branch; Line Paré, Director General, External Relations and Gender Issues Branch. Department of Justice: Carole Morency, Acting General Counsel, Criminal Law Policy Section. Department of Public Safety: Daniel Sansfaçon, Acting Executive Director, National Crime Prevention Centre; Ed Buller, Director, Aboriginal Corrections Policy Division. Royal Canadian Mounted Police: Bob Paulson, Assistant Commissioner, Contract and Aboriginal Policing; Russ Mirasty, Director General, National Aboriginal Policing Services.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, March 8, 2010, the Committee resumed its study of violence against Aboriginal women.
 

Mary Quinn, Carole Morency, Daniel Sansfaçon, Ed Buller and Bob Paulson made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 5:10 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:13 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the operational budget of $21,300 for the study on maternal and child health be adopted.

 

At 5:14 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
