The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met at 3:27 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, the Hon. Hedy Fry, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Sylvie Boucher, Lois Brown, Paul Calandra, Nicole Demers, Luc Desnoyers, Hon. Hedy Fry, Irene Mathyssen, Cathy McLeod, Hon. Anita Neville, Michelle Simson and Alice Wong.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Julie Cool; Sandra Gruescu.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Medical Association: Anne Doig; Mamta Gautam, Centre for Physician Health and Wellbeing. Conseil d'intervention pour l'accès des femmes au travail: Jennifer Beeman; Nathalie Goulet. Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada: Gisèle Pageau; Josh Coles. Equal Voice: Nancy Peckford; Giovanna Mingarelli. Federation of Medical Women of Canada: Janet Dollin; Kathleen Gartke.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, March 8, 2010, the Committee resumed its study of increasing the participation of women in non-traditional occupations.
 

Anne Doig, Jennifer Beeman, Nathalie Goulet, Gisèle Pageau, Nancy Peckford, Giovanna Mingarelli and Kathleen Gartke made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 5:05 p.m., Cathy McLeod took the Chair.

 

At 5:13 p.m., the Hon. Hedy Fry took the chair.

 

At 5:19 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:22 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the study of violence against Aboriginal women, the proposed budget in the amount of $434,387, for the Committee’s travel to Vancouver, Nanaimo, Port Hardy, and Williams Lake, British Columbia; Resolute Bay and Iqaluit, Nunavut; Maniwaki, La Tuque, Quebec City and Montreal, Quebec; Labrador City, Newfoundland and Labrador; Whitehorse, Yukon; Yellowknife, Northwest Territories; Halifax, Nova Scotia; Fredericton, New Brunswick; Kenora, Sioux Lookout, Thunder Bay and Brantford, Ontario; Koostatak and Winnipeg, Manitoba and Fort Qu'Appelle, Saskatchewan, in Spring-Summer 2010 be adopted and that the Chair present the said budget to the Subcommittee on Committee Budgets of the Liaison Committee.

 

At 5:29 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
