The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met in camera at 11:07 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Dean Allison, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Jim Abbott, Dean Allison, Johanne Deschamps, Peter Goldring, James Lunney, Deepak Obhrai, Bernard Patry, Hon. Bob Rae and Dave Van Kesteren.

 

Acting Members present: Jean Dorion for Francine Lalonde, Hon. John McKay for Glen Douglas Pearson and John Rafferty for Paul Dewar.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Allison Goody, Analyst; James Lee, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Lawrence Cannon, P.C., M.P., Minister of Foreign Affairs.

 

Witnesses: Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Leonard J. Edwards, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs; Gordon White, Assistant Deputy Minister and Chief Financial Officer, Corporate Finance and Operations.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee undertake a study of the situation at Rights & Democracy (International Centre for Human Rights and Democratic Development).

 

At 11:58 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

 

At 12:03 p.m., the Committee proceeded to sit in public.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(5), the Committee commenced consideration of the Supplementary Estimates (C) 2009-2010: Votes 1c, 5c, 10c, L12c, 30c, L37c and 40c under FOREIGN AFFAIRS AND INTERNATIONAL TRADE referred to the Committee on Wednesday, March 3, 2010.
 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the Committee commenced consideration of the Main Estimates 2010-2011: Votes 1, 5, 10, 20, 25, L30, 35 and 40 under FOREIGN AFFAIRS AND INTERNATIONAL TRADE referred to the Committee on Wednesday, March 3, 2010.
 

The Chair called Votes 1c and 1.

 

The Minister made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 1:04 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
