The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met in a video recorded session at 11:06 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Dean Allison, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Jim Abbott, Dean Allison, Johanne Deschamps, Paul Dewar, Peter Goldring, Francine Lalonde, James Lunney, Deepak Obhrai, Bernard Patry, Glen Douglas Pearson, Hon. Bob Rae and Dave Van Kesteren.

 

Acting Members present: Luc Desnoyers for Francine Lalonde, Earl Dreeshen for Deepak Obhrai, Nina Grewal for Hon. Jim Abbott and Hon. John McKay for Glen Douglas Pearson.

 

In attendance: House of Commons: Andrew Lauzon, Procedural Clerk. Library of Parliament: Allison Goody, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: World Vision Canada: Elly Vandenberg, Director, Ottawa Bureau. CARE Canada: Teresa Chiesa, Health Advisor and Program Manager, International Programs. Oxfam Canada: Robert Fox, Executive Director. Pembina Institute: Clare Demerse, Associate Director, Climate Change. Halifax Initiative Coalition: Fraser Reilly-King, Coordinator.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, April 22, 2010, the Committee resumed its study of the Group of Eight (G8) Summit with a focus on the Maternal and Child Health Initiative.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:52 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:53 p.m., the Committee resumed sitting in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee meet on Tuesday, May 25, 2010, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., to resume consideration of Bill C-300, An Act respecting Corporate Accountability for the Activities of Mining, Oil or Gas in Developing Countries.

 

It was agreed, — That the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure meet on Thursday, May 27, 2010, from 11:00 a.m to 1:00 p.m.

 

At 12:58 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
