The Standing Committee on Natural Resources met in a televised session at 3:29 p.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Vice-Chair, Alan Tonks, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Mike Allen, David Anderson, Paule Brunelle, Nathan Cullen, Claude Guimond, Hon. Geoff Regan, Devinder Shory, Alan Tonks and Brad Trost.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Wayne Easter for Hon. Navdeep Bains, Cheryl Gallant for Russ Hiebert and David Tilson for Leon Benoit.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Luc Bourdages, Analyst; Mohamed Zakzouk, Analyst. House of Commons: Angela Crandall, Procedural Clerk.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Association of Nuclear Medicine: Jean-Luc Urbain, President. Department of Health: Alexander McEwan, Special Advisor on Medical Isotopes to the Minister of Health. MDS Nordion: Steve West, President; Jill Chitra, Vice-President, Strategic Technologies. Ontario Association of Nuclear Medicine: Kevin Tracey, Vice-President. Atomic Energy of Canada Limited: William Pilkington, Senior Vice-President and Chief Nuclear Officer; Richard V. Côté, Vice-President, Isotopes Business.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, May 26, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of the Atomic Energy Canada Limited facility at Chalk River and the status of the production of medical isotopes.
 

Jean-Luc Urbain, Kevin Tracey, Steve West and Alexander McEwan made statements and, with Jill Chitra, answered questions.

 

At 5:04 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:07 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

William Pilkington made a statement and, with Richard V. Côté, answered questions.

 

At 5:51 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
