The Standing Committee on Natural Resources met in a televised session at 3:33 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Leon Benoit, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Mike Allen, David Anderson, Hon. Navdeep Bains, Leon Benoit, Paule Brunelle, Nathan Cullen, Russ Hiebert, Devinder Shory, Alan Tonks and Brad Trost.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Carolyn Bennett for Hon. Geoff Regan, Cheryl Gallant for David Anderson and Luc Malo for France Bonsant.

 

Associate Members present: Cheryl Gallant.

 

Other Members present: David J. McGuinty.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Luc Bourdages, Analyst; Mohamed Zakzouk, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Association of Nuclear Medicine: Jean-Luc Urbain, President; Peter Hollet, Past President. Canadian Association of Radiologists: Edward Lyons O.C., President; Jacques Lévesque, Vice-President. Hamilton Health Sciences and St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton: Karen Gulenchyn, Medical Chief, Department of Nuclear Medicine. Quebec Association of Nuclear Medicine Specialists: François Lamoureux, President.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, May 26, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of the Atomic Energy Canada Limited facility at Chalk River and the status of the production of medical isotopes.
 

Jean-Luc Urbain, Edward Lyons and François Lamoureux made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

Karen Gulenchyn made a statement and answered questions by videoconference from Hamilton, Ontario.

 

At 3:45 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 3:49 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

At 5:29 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:31 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

On motion of Russ Hiebert, it was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $ 36,000, for the study of the Atomic Energy Canada Limited facility at Chalk River and the status of the production of medical isotopes, be adopted.

 

At 5:32 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
