The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met in a televised session at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Shawn Murphy, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: David Christopherson, Bonnie Crombie, Meili Faille, Daryl Kramp, Derek Lee, Hon. Shawn Murphy, Pascal-Pierre Paillé, Andrew Saxton, Bev Shipley, John Weston and Terence Young.

Acting Members present: Alice Wong for Andrew Saxton.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Andrew Kitching, Analyst ; Alex Smith, Analyst.

Witnesses: Office of the Auditor General of Canada: Sheila Fraser, Auditor General of Canada; Nancy Cheng, Assistant Auditor General. Department of Finance: Paul Rochon, Senior Assistant Deputy Minister, Economic and Fiscal Policy Branch. Treasury Board Secretariat: James Ralston, Comptroller General of Canada; Bill Matthews, Assistant Comptroller General, Financial Management and Analysis Sector; Suzie Gignac, Executive Director, Government Accounting Policy and Reporting, Financial Management and Analysis Sector.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(g) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, October 7, 2009, the Committee commenced consideration of the Public Accounts of Canada 2009, referred to the Committee on Wednesday, November 4, 2009.

Sheila Fraser and James Ralston made statements and, with Paul Rochon, Bill Matthews and Nancy Cheng, answered questions.

At 4:31 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:53 p.m., the sitting resumed.

At 5:40 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
