The Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates met at 11:07 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Derek Lee, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Rob Anders, Diane Bourgeois, Patrick Brown, Paul Calandra, Jacques Gourde, Martha Hall Findlay, Derek Lee, Pat Martin, Hon. Dan McTeague, Jean-Yves Roy and Chris Warkentin.

 

Associate Members present: Glenn Thibeault.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lydia Scratch, Analyst; Jean-François Nadeau, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Statistics Canada: Michel Girard, Director, Industry Accounts Division; Karen Wilson, Assistant Chief Statistician, National Accounts and Analytical Studies. Privy Council Office: Simon Kennedy, Deputy Secretary to the Cabinet, Plans and Consultation; Marilyn MacPherson, Assistant Deputy Minister, Corporate Services Branch; Tim Sargent, Assistant Secretary to the Cabinet, Liaison Secretariat for Macroeconomic Policy. Department of Finance: Stephen Richardson, Associate Deputy Minister; Paul Rochon, Assistant Deputy Minister, Economic and Fiscal Policy Branch.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(5), the Committee commenced consideration of the Supplementary Estimates (B) 2008-2009: Votes 80b and 85b under CANADIAN HERITAGE, Vote 1b under PRIVY COUNCIL, Votes 1b and 5b under PUBLIC WORKS AND GOVERNMENT SERVICES and Votes 1b, 15b, 20b, 30b and 50b under TREASURY BOARD referred to the Committee on Thursday, January 29, 2009.
 

Karen Wilson, Marilyn MacPherson and Stephen Richardson made a statement and, with Michel Girard, Paul Rochon and Simon Kennedy, answered questions.

 

By unanimous consent, the Chair called Votes 80b and 85b under CANADIAN HERITAGE, Vote 1b under PRIVY COUNCIL, Votes 1b and 5b under PUBLIC WORKS AND GOVERNMENT SERVICES and Votes 1b, 15b, 20b, 30b and 50b under TREASURY BOARD.

 

Votes 80b and 85b under CANADIAN HERITAGE, Vote 1b under PRIVY COUNCIL, Votes 1b and 5b under PUBLIC WORKS AND GOVERNMENT SERVICES and Votes 1b, 15b, 20b, 30b and 50b under TREASURY BOARD carried.

 

ORDERED, — That the Chair report Votes 80b and 85b under CANADIAN HERITAGE, Vote 1b under PRIVY COUNCIL, Votes 1b and 5b under PUBLIC WORKS AND GOVERNMENT SERVICES and Votes 1b, 15b, 20b, 30b and 50b under TREASURY BOARD to the House.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

On motion of Diane Bourgeois, it was agreed, — That the Committee study the ability of small and medium enterprises to access federal procurement, both generally and as part of the stimulus package.

 

At 12:59 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
