The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 3:34 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Dean Allison, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, Ron Cannan, Ed Komarnicki, Yves Lessard, Ben Lobb, Hon. Maria Minna, Michael John Savage and Maurice Vellacott.

 

Acting Members present: Olivia Chow for Tony Martin, Gerard Kennedy for Raymonde Folco, Megan Anissa Leslie for Tony Martin and Luc Malo for Josée Beaudin.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Hilary Jensen, Analyst; André Léonard, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Libby Davies, M.P., Vancouver East. Assembly of First Nations: Dewey Smith, Senior Policy Advisor - Housing, Housing and Infrastructure Directorate. Canadian Housing and Renewal Association: David Eddy, President; Geoffrey Gillard, Acting Executive Director. Evangelical Fellowship of Canada: Don Hutchinson, Vice-President and General Legal Counsel; Julia Beazley, Coordinator. Canadian Federation of Apartment Associations: David Lyman, Representative. Federation of Canadian Municipalities: Michael Buda, Director, Policy and Research; Joshua Bates, Policy Advisor. Wellesley Institute: Michael Shapcott, Director, Affordable Housing and Social Innovation.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, September 30, 2009, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill C-304, An Act to ensure secure, adequate, accessible and affordable housing for Canadians.
 

Libby Davies, David Heddy, Geoffrey Gillard, Dewey Smith and Julia Beazley made statements and, with Don Hutchinson, answered questions.

 

At 4:37 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:43 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the debate on the motion of Tony Martin be suspended until Tuesday, November 17, 2009.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, September 30, 2009, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-304, An Act to ensure secure, adequate, accessible and affordable housing for Canadians.
 

David Lyman, Joshua Bates and Michael Shapcott made statements and, with Michael Buda, answered questions.

 

At 5:47 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
