The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met at 3:38 p.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Vice-Chair, Irene Mathyssen, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Sylvie Boucher, Nicole Demers, Luc Desnoyers, Hon. Hedy Fry, Candice Hoeppner, Irene Mathyssen, Cathy McLeod, Hon. Anita Neville, Dave Van Kesteren and Lise Zarac.

 

Acting Members present: Ed Fast for Alice Wong and Rick Norlock for Candice Hoeppner.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Julie Cool, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Public Service Alliance of Canada: Patty Ducharme, National Executive Vice-President, Executive Office; Annette Marquis, Disability Insurance and Pension Officer.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, October 1, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of women and pension security.
 

Patty Ducharme made a statement and, with Annette Marquis, answered questions.

 

At 4:35 p.m., Hon. Hedy Fry took the Chair.

 

At 4:59 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:00 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee call on officials from the Ministries of Public Safety, Health, Justice, Indian and Northern Affairs and the Status of Women, as well as the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to discuss programs, policies and action currently being undertaken and what further action is required to address violence against Aboriginal Women; and

That the Committee further invite, but not be limited to, representatives of Native Women's Association of Canada, the Assembly of First Nations Women’s Council, the Métis National Council of Women, Pauktuutit Inuit Women Association, the Quebec Native Women, the Native Women’s Association of the Northwest Territories, the YWCA, along with individual advocates on the issue of violence against Aboriginal women including but not limited to, Sharon McIvor, Ellen Gabriel, Beverly Jacobs, Mavis Erickson, and Debra Hanuse.

 

At 5:19 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
