The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met by videoconference at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Hedy Fry, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Nicole Demers, Hon. Hedy Fry, Candice Hoeppner, Irene Mathyssen, Cathy McLeod, Hon. Anita Neville, Dave Van Kesteren, Alice Wong and Lise Zarac.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Maxime Bernier for Sylvie Boucher and Paule Brunelle for Luc Desnoyers.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Julie Cool, Analyst; Jean-François Nadeau, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions Canada: Jean-Claude Ménard, Chief Actuary, Office of the Chief Actuary. As an individual: Tammy Schirle, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, Wilfrid Laurier University. Canada Revenue Agency: Danielle Laflèche, Director General, Legislation, Policy and Regulatory Affairs Branch; Janice Laird, Director, Actuarial and Policy Division, Legislation, Policy and Regulatory Affairs Branch. Department of Finance: Chris Forbes, General Director, Federal-Provincial Relations and Social Policy Branch; Jeremy Rudin, Assistant Deputy Minister, Financial Sector Policy Branch; Louise Levonian, Assistant Deputy Minister, Tax Policy Branch; Ian Pomroy, Senior Tax Policy Officer, Social Tax Policy, Personal Income Tax Division.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, October 1, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of women and pension security.
 

Jean-Claude Ménard, Tammy Schirle, Danielle Laflèche and Chris Forbes made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 5:05 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:07 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

At 5:10 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:10 p.m., the sitting resumed in public.

 

On motion of Irene Mathyssen, it was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee invite the Minister of State for the Status of Women Canada to appear at the earliest opportunity to explain the extent to which federal government departments make use of Gender Based Analysis (GBA) across government departments for the process of decision making and the creation of policy.

 

At 5:17 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
