The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met at 9:02 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Kevin A. Sorenson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Jim Abbott, Johanne Deschamps, Paul Dewar, Peter Goldring, Francine Lalonde, James Lunney, Bernard Patry, Glen Douglas Pearson, Hon. Bob Rae and Kevin Sorenson.

 

Acting Members present: Robert Clarke for Lois Brown, Jean Dorion for Francine Lalonde, Rick Norlock for Deepak Obhrai and Stephen Woodworth for Peter Goldring.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Allison Goody, Analyst; James Lee, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Natural Resources: Stephen Lucas, Assistant Deputy Minister, Minerals and Metals Sector; Ginny Flood, Director General, Minerals, Metals and Materials Policy Branch. Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, April 22, 2009, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-300, An Act respecting Corporate Accountability for the Activities of Mining, Oil or Gas in Developing Countries.
 

Stephen Lucas made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 9:55 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:58 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Rémy M. Beauregard, William McGuinty, Tyler Giannini and Sarah Knuckey made statements and, with Carole Samdup, answered questions.

 

At 11:05 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
