The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met in camera at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Kevin Sorenson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Jim Abbott, Lois Brown, Johanne Deschamps, Peter Goldring, Francine Lalonde, James Lunney, Deepak Obhrai, Bernard Patry, Glen Douglas Pearson and Kevin Sorenson.

 

Acting Members present: David Christopherson for Paul Dewar and Bonnie Crombie for Hon. Bob Rae.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: James Lee, Analyst; Melissa Radford, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee adopt a budget in the amount of $38,000 on behalf of the Subcommittee on International Human Rights in relation to its study on human rights.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee adopt a budget in the amount of $33,800 in relation to its study of Bill C-300, An Act respecting Corporate Accountability for the Activities of Mining, Oil or Gas in Developing Countries.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee study a draft report on key elements of Canadian foreign policy concerning Canada / U.S. relations on June 8 and 10 2009, and if necessary on June 15, 2009.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee invite witnesses to appear on the study of key elements of Canadian foreign policy concerning the Great Lakes region of Africa during the second hour of the meeting on June 15, 2009.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee invite witnesses to appear on the study of Bill C-300, An Act respecting Corporate Accountability for the Activities of Mining, Oil or Gas in Developing Countries, on June 17, 2009.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee invite witnesses to appear on the study of key elements of Canadian foreign policy concerning the Great Lakes region of Africa on June 22, 2009.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee have discussions in the fall of 2009 concerning the Ambassadors of the African countries it met with on May 27, 2009.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, February 10, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of key elements of Canadian foreign policy.
 

The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.

 

At 4:33 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
