The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met at 3:29 p.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Kevin Sorenson, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Jim Abbott, Lois Brown, Paul Crête, Paul Dewar, Peter Goldring, James Lunney, Deepak Obhrai, Bernard Patry, Glen Douglas Pearson, Hon. Bob Rae and Kevin Sorenson.

Acting Members present: Jean Dorion for Johanne Deschamps.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: James Lee, Analyst ; Melissa Radford, Analyst.

Witnesses: University of Toronto: David R. Cameron, Chair, Department of Political Science. Acadia University: Bruce Matthews, Professor Emeritus. Sri Lanka United National Association of Canada: Mahinda Gunasekera, President; Asoka Weerasinghe, Member.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on February 10, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of key elements of Canadian foreign policy.

David R. Cameron and Bruce Matthews made statements and answered questions.

At 4:32 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:33 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Mihanda Gunasekera and Asoka Weerasinghe made statements and answered questions.

It was agreed, — That the briefs presented by Mihanda Gunasekera and Asoka Weerasinghe be taken as read and published in today’s Evidence.

At 5:31 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
