The Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics met at 9:03 a.m. this day, in Room 214, Wellington Building, the Chair, Paul Szabo, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Kelly Block, Patricia Davidson, Jean Dorion, Carole Freeman, Pierre Poilievre, Greg Rickford, Bill Siksay, Michelle Simson, Paul Szabo and Borys Wrzesnewskyj.

 

Acting Members present: Ron Cannan for Bob Dechert.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Élise Hurtubise-Loranger, Analyst; Alysia Davies, Analyst; Dara Lithwick, Analyst.

 
Pursuant to Standing Orders 108(2) and 108(3)(h)(iv), Special Report of the Information Commissioner entitled "Report Cards 2007-2008 and Systemic Issues Affecting Access to Information in Canada" referred to the Committee on Thursday, February 26, 2009, and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, March 4, 2009, the Committee resumed its study on the Access to Information Act Reform.
 

Borys Wrzesnewskyj moved, — That the Committee write to the Minister of Justice to express its desire for a more comprehensive response on its 11th report entitled ‘The Access to information Act: First Step Towards Renewal’. Specifically, the Committee requests that the Minister address each recommendation made individually by the committee and the Access to Information Commissioner and provide background for his caution and concerns. The Committee further requests that the Minister respond by January 15, 2010.

Debate arose thereon.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

 

At 9:19 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
