The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met in a televised videoconference session at 11:12 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, James Bezan, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: James Bezan, Bernard Bigras, Peter Braid, Blaine Calkins, Linda Duncan, David J. McGuinty, Christian Ouellet, Francis Scarpaleggia, Justin Trudeau, Mark Warawa, Jeff Watson and Stephen Woodworth.

 

Associate Members present: Bruce Hyer.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Penny Becklumb, Analyst; Tim Williams, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Environment Northeast: Derek K. Murrow, Director, Policy Analysis. Pew Center on Global Climate Change: Janet Peace, Vice-President, Markets and Business Strategy. World Resources Institute: Dennis Tirpak, Senior Fellow, Associate with the International Institute for Sustainable Development.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, April 1, 2009, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-311, An Act to ensure Canada assumes its responsibilities in preventing dangerous climate change.
 

Dennis Tirpak made a statement and answered questions.

 

Derek K. Murrow, by videoconference from Chicago, made a statement and answered questions.

 

Janet Peace, by videoconference from Washington, made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 12:54 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:56 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

On motion of Linda Duncan, it was agreed, — That the Committee consider the Supplementary Estimates (B) on or before December 1, 2009, pursuant to Standing Order 81(5), and that the Minister be requested to testify.

 

At 1:32 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
