The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met in a video recorded session at 9:04 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, James Bezan, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: James Bezan, Bernard Bigras, Peter Braid, Linda Duncan, David J. McGuinty, Christian Ouellet, Francis Scarpaleggia, Justin Trudeau, Mark Warawa, Jeff Watson and Stephen Woodworth.

 

Acting Members present: Dean Del Mastro for Blaine Calkins.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Penny Becklumb, Analyst; Tim Williams, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Jim Prentice, Minister of the Environment.

 

Witnesses: Department of the Environment: Ian Shugart, Deputy Minister; Mike Beale, Acting Associate Assistant Deputy Minister; Basia Ruta, Assistant Deputy Minister and Chief Financial Officer, Finance and Corporate Branch; Cynthia Wright, Acting Assistant Deputy Minister, Environmental Stewardship Branch. Parks Canada Agency: Alan Latourelle, Chief Executive Officer. Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency: Peter Sylvester, President. National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy: David McLaughlin, President and Chief Executive Officer.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the Committee commenced consideration of the Main Estimates 2009-2010: Votes 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 under ENVIRONMENT, referred to the Committee on Thursday, February 26, 2009.
 

The Hon. Jim Prentice made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Bernard Bigras moved, — That the Minister of the Environment table before the Committee the documents and analysis underlying Canada’s position presented at the Bonn Climate Change Talks, from March 29 to April 8, 2009.

 

Mark Warawa moved, — That the motion be amended by adding the word “appropriate” before the word “documents” and by adding the words “as the Minister sees fit” after the word “analysis”.

 

The question was put on the amendment of Mark Warawa and it was negatived on division.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

 

At 11:11 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
