The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 9:03 a.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Vice-Chair, Maurizio Bevilacqua, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Maurizio Bevilacqua, Paul Calandra, Olivia Chow, Rick Dykstra, Nina Grewal, Hon. Jim Karygiannis, Alexandra Mendes, Thierry St-Cyr and Alice Wong.

 

Acting Members present: Randy Hoback for David Tilson, Luc Malo for Pascal-Pierre Paillé and Tilly O'Neill-Gordon for Devinder Shory.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Sandra Elgersma, Analyst; Daniel Thompson, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Office of the Auditor General of Canada: Sheila Fraser, Auditor General of Canada; Jean Goulet, Director; Anne Marie Smith, Principal. Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada: Simon Coakeley, Executive Director; Sylvia Cox-Duquette, Senior General Counsel, Legal Services Branch.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, April 21, 2009, the Committee its study of Chapter 2 of the Report of the Auditor General of Canada of March 2009 - "Governor in Council Appointments Process."
 

Sheila Fraser and Simon Coakeley made statements and answered questions.

 

At 10:12 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:16 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, February 12, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of undocumented workers and temporary foreign workers.
 

The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee adopt the draft report as the Committee’s report, and that the Chair present the said report to the House;

That the Chair be authorized to make such typographical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the report;

That, pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request that the government table a comprehensive response to the report; and

That 50 copies of the report be printed in accordance with the policy established by the Board of Internal Economy in a tumble bilingual format.

 

At 10:55 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:55 a.m., the sitting resumed in public.

 

At 10:56 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
