The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met in a televised session at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Gary Ralph Schellenberger, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Charlie Angus, Rod Bruinooge, Dean Del Mastro, Ruby Dhalla, Shelly Glover, Carole Lavallée, Roger Pomerleau, Gary Ralph Schellenberger and Scott Simms.

 

Acting Members present: Patrick Brown for Nina Grewal, Jean-Claude JC D'Amours for Pablo Rodriguez and Brian Storseth for Tim Uppal.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Michael Dewing, Analyst; Marion Ménard, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission: Michel Arpin, Vice-Chair, Broadcasting, Chairman's office; Stephen Delaney, Director, Industry Analysis; Scott Hutton, Executive Director, Broadcasting; Konrad W. von Finckenstein, Chair.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, March 11, 2009, the Committee commenced its study on the evolution of the television industry in Canada and its impact on local communities.
 

Dean Del Mastro gave notice of the following motion:

That the Standing Committee of Canadian Heritage call to appear, at its earliest convenience, the following representatives from the Canada Council for the Arts: Director: Robert Sirman, Chairperson: Joseph L. Rotman and Vice Chair: Simon Brault, to provide information regarding the $13 million the Canada Council for the Arts has allocated to provide funds and resources to the arts community for international promotion and touring, and that the findings be reported back to the House and the vote be a public vote

 

Konrad W. von Finckenstein made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 5:25 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
