The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 3:15 p.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Larry Miller, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Alex Atamanenko, André Bellavance, France Bonsant, Hon. Wayne Easter, Hon. Mark Eyking, Pierre Lemieux, Larry Miller, Blake Richards, Bev Shipley, Brian Storseth and Francis Valeriote.

 

Acting Members present: Harold Albrecht for Randy Hoback.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Aïcha Coulibaly, Analyst; Frédéric Forge, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Union des producteurs agricoles: Pierre Lemieux, First Vice-President; David Tougas, Economist. Fresh Produce Alliance: Wayne Morris, Project Coordinator; Stephen Whitney, Project Coordinator, Fruit and Vegetable Dispute Resolution Corporation. Agricultural Adaptation Council: Angela Stiles, Executive Director; Kim Turnbull, Chairman. Ontario Agri-Food Technologies: Gord Surgeoner, President.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, October 27, 2009, the Committee resumed its study on program review.
 

Pierre Lemieux, Kim Turnbull, Angela Stiles, Gord Surgeoner and Wayne Morris made statements and answered questions.

 

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, — That, notwithstanding the motion adopted on Tuesday, February 3, 2009, five (5) minutes be allocated to each questioner during the questioning of witnesses.

 

At 4:15 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:20 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on February 24, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of competitiveness of Canadian agriculture.
 

The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee append to its report on the Agricultural Flexibility program a dissenting opinion from the Conservative Party.

 

At 5:17 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
