The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 3:22 p.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Larry Miller, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Alex Atamanenko, André Bellavance, France Bonsant, Hon. Wayne Easter, Hon. Mark Eyking, Randy Hoback, Pierre Lemieux, Larry Miller, Blake Richards, Bev Shipley, Brian Storseth and Francis Valeriote.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Aïcha Coulibaly, Analyst; Frédéric Forge, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canada Pork International: Edouard Asnong, President; Jacques Pomerleau, Executive Director. Animal Nutrition Association of Canada: Graham Cooper, Executive Director; Julie Latrémouille, Manager, Regulatory Affairs. Seaside Farms: Leza Matheson-Wolters, Producer. Canadian Pork Council: Stephen Moffett, Director and Chair of the Business Risk Management Committee; Jurgen Preugschas, President.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, October 27, 2009, the Committee commenced its study of the crisis in the hog sector.
 

It was agreed, — That the Chair write a letter expressing the Committee's concerns about the delisting of several producer car loading sites by CN.

 

Edouard Asnong, Jurgen Preugschas, Graham Cooper and Leza Matheson-Wolters made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 5:14 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
