The Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 112-N, Centre Block, the chair, David Sweet, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Guy André, Scott Andrews, Rob Clarke, Judy Foote, Roger Gaudet, Greg Kerr, Ben Lobb, Phil McColeman, Tilly O'Neill-Gordon, Peter Stoffer and David Sweet.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Albina Guarnieri for Hon. Judy Sgro.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Michel Rossignol, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Greg Francis Thompson, Minister of Veterans Affairs.

 

Witnesses: Department of Veterans Affairs: Suzanne Tining, Deputy Minister.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(5), the Committee commenced consideration of the Supplementary Estimates (B) 2008-2009: Votes 1b and 10b under VETERANS AFFAIRS referred to the Committee on Thursday, January 29, 2009.
 

The Minister made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 5:06 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:08 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee attend a breakfast engagement hosted by the Dominion Institute at a date to be determined.

 

On motion of Peter Stoffer, it was agreed, — That the evidence and documentation received by the Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs during the Second Session of the 39th Parliament in relation to its Comparison Study of Veterans Services Offered by Members of the Commonwealth and the G8 be taken into consideration by the Committee in this session.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee visit Ste. Anne's Hospital.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee travel to Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island in order to tour Veterans Affairs Canada.

 

At 5:24 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
