The Standing Committee on Natural Resources met in camera at 3:33 p.m. this day, in Room 307, West Block, the Chair, Leon Benoit, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Omar Alghabra, Mike Allen, David Anderson, Catherine Bell, Leon Benoit, Ken Boshcoff, Claude DeBellefeuille, Richard Harris, Christian Ouellet, Lloyd St. Amand, Alan Tonks and Bradley R. Trost.

 

Acting Members present: Paule Brunelle for Claude DeBellefeuille and Denis Lebel for David Anderson.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Fréderic Beauregard-Tellier, Analyst; Jean-Luc Bourdages, Analyst.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee proceed to sit in public.

 

At 3:41 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 3:42 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

At 3:42, the Committee proceeded to sit in public.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Claude DeBellefeuille moved, — That the following motion be reported to the House at the first opportunity:

That in light of the importance of the data compiled by the RADARSAT-2 satellite, including hydrological, cartographical and geological data, the Standing Committee on Natural Resources recommend to the Minister of Industry that he maintain his decision, made under the Investment Canada Act, not to allow the sale of the aerospace assets of the Canadian company MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd (MDA) to the American company Techsystems Inc. (ATK).

Debate arose thereon.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 7; NAYS: 0.

 

At 3:53 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 3:55 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

At 3:58, the Committee proceeded to sit in camera.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, December 11, 2007, the Committee resumed its study of the unique opportunities and challenges facing the forest products industry.
 

The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.

 

At 5:31 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
