Barbara George to be called to explain apparent discrepancies in her testimony
Ottawa, November 28, 2007 -
The Standing Committee on Public Accounts will invite RCMP Deputy Commissioner Barbara George to appear on 11 December 2007 to explain apparent discrepancies in her testimony.
D/Commr George first appeared before the Committee on 21 February 2007, and concerns soon arose that her testimony may have been contradicted by other testimony and documentary evidence received by the Committee. D/Commr George will be afforded the opportunity to make a statement to the Committee to respond to these conerns.
The Public Accounts Committee takes the truthfulness of witnesses very seriously, and providing false or misleading testimony to a parliamentary committee could constitute contempt of Parliament.
