Meeting No. 6

Thursday, November 29, 2007

The Standing Committee on Official Languages met at 9:10 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Steven Blaney, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Mauril Bélanger, Steven Blaney, Hon. Michael D. Chong, Jean-Claude D'Amours, Raymonde Folco, Yvon Godin, Raymond Gravel, Luc Harvey, Pierre Lemieux and Daniel Petit.

Acting Members present: Réal Ménard for Richard Nadeau and Francis Scarpaleggia for Pablo Rodriguez.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Rodrigue Paré, Analyst.

Witnesses: Greater Quebec Movement: Richard Smith, Vice-President.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

Yvon Godin moved, — That the Committee recommends that its Report on the Court Challenges Program be deemed presented to the House upon its adoption by the Committee, if the House has already adjourned, and that the adoption of this motion be reported to the House.

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

On motion of Mauril Bélanger, it was agreed, — That the Planning Calendar distributed by the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedures be concurred in.

At 9:33 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:43 a.m., the sitting resumed.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, May 31, 2007, the Committee resumed its study of the Court Challenges Program.

The witness made a statement and answered questions.

At 10:49 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
