The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met at 9:20 a.m. this day, in Room 306, West Block, the Chair, Yasmin Ratansi, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Sylvie Boucher, Patricia Davidson, Johanne Deschamps, Nina Grewal, Irene Mathyssen, Hon. Maria Minna, Glen Douglas Pearson, Yasmin Ratansi and Bruce Stanton.

 

Acting Members present: Carole Lavallée for Nicole Demers and Hon. Geoff Regan for Hon. Anita Neville.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Shahrzad Mobasher Fard, Analyst; Clara Morgan, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Status of Women Canada: Michèle Bougie, Senior Policy and Program Analyst; Hélène Dwyer-Renaud, Senior Advisor, Gender-Based Analysis Support Services.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

On motion of Irene Mathyssen, it was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on the Status of Women, jointly with the Standing Committee on Finance, conduct pre-budget consultations with groups and individuals able to direct the government to ensure that the Budget does include gender-based budgeting and reflect the needs of women; and that the Standing Committee on the Status of Women conduct a post budget review with contracting experts under the supervision of the Library of Parliament to assess how the Budget addresses the needs of women; and that these consultations be reported to the House of Commons.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on November 21, 2007, the Committee resumed its study on Gender Budgets.
 

Michèle Bougie and Hélène Dwyer-Renaud answered questions.

 

At 10:52 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:53 a.m., the sitting resumed.

At 11:00 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
