The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met in camera at 4:05 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Kevin Sorenson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Vivian Barbot, Hon. Raymond Chan, Johanne Deschamps, Paul Dewar, Peter Goldring, Wajid Khan, Denis Lebel, Deepak Obhrai, Bernard Patry and Kevin Sorenson.

 

Acting Members present: Gary Goodyear for Deepak Obhrai and Michael Savage for Hon. Keith Martin.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: James Lee, Analyst; Natalie Mychajlyszyn, Analyst; Marcus Pistor, Analyst.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on April 1, 2008, the Committee resumed its study on Canada-China Bilateral Human Rights Dialogue.
 

The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.

 

It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development, as part of its consideration of the report by the Subcommittee on International Human Rights entitled “Canada-China Bilateral Human Rights Dialogue”, devote two other meetings to hearing from further witnesses, including experts in this area.

 

At 5:15 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:16 p.m., the sitting resumed in public.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Paul Dewar moved, — That his motion asking that the Minister of Foreign Affairs be invited to appear before the Committee in relation to his record, be moved to the top of the list and be debated.

Debate arose thereon.

 

At 5:29 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
