The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met in camera at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Kevin Sorenson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Vivian Barbot, Paul Dewar, Peter Goldring, Wajid Khan, Denis Lebel, Hon. Keith Martin, Deepak Obhrai, Bernard Patry and Kevin Sorenson.

 

Acting Members present: Johanne Deschamps for Caroline St-Hilaire, Massimo Pacetti for Hon. Raymond Chan and Hon. Bob Rae for Hon. Bryon Wilfert.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: James Lee, Analyst; Natalie Mychajlyszyn, Analyst; Gerald Schmitz, Principal.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That a meeting with a Delegation from the Philippines on Human rights scheduled for April 15, 2008 be referred to the Subcommittee on International Human Rights.

 

It was agreed, — That a request to meet with Firoze Manji of Kenya on April 15, 2008, be referred to the Subcommittee on International Human Rights.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee study the report of the Subcommittee on International Human Rights concerning China on April 29 and May 1, 2008 or at an earlier date if possible.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee review the Sudanese Comprehensive Peace Agreement and the ongoing crisis in Darfur and seek approval to travel to the region, reporting back to Parliament with recommendations.

 

It was agreed, — That the motion standing on the list in the name of Vivian Barbot concerning Omar Khadr be moved to the top and debated.

 

At 5:17 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
