The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met at 3:33 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Kevin Sorenson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Vivian Barbot, Hon. Raymond Chan, Paul Dewar, Peter Goldring, Wajid Khan, Denis Lebel, Hon. Keith Martin, Deepak Obhrai, Bernard Patry, Kevin Sorenson and Hon. Bryon Wilfert.

 

Acting Members present: Johanne Deschamps for Caroline St-Hilaire.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Gerald Schmitz, Principal; Natalie Mychajlyszyn, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Ken Sunquist, Assistant Deputy Minister, Global Operations and Chief Trade Commissioner; David Angell, Director General, Africa Bureau; Scott Proudfoot, Director, Sudan Task Force; Donica Pottie, Director, Human Security Policy Division. Canadian International Development Agency: Louise Clément, Acting Director General, Southern and Eastern Africa Directorate, Africa Branch. Canadian Economic Development Assistance for Southern Sudan: David Tennant, Executive Director. Sudan Divestment Movement: Daniel Millenson, National Advocacy Director, Sudan Divestment Task Force. STAND Canada: Ira Goldstein, National Divestment Coordinator.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on November 20, 2007, the Committee proceeded to a briefing on the crisis in Sudan and investments.
 

Ken Sunquist made a statement and with the other witnesses answered questions.

 

At 4:33 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:39 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

David Tennant, Daniel Millenson and Ira Goldstein made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:10, by unanimous consent and pursuant to Standing Order 115(5), it was agreed that the Committee would continue to sit for five minutes after the bells began ringing.

 

At 5:24 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
