The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met at 3:29 p.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Bob Mills, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Bernard Bigras, Luc Harvey, Marcel Lussier, David J. McGuinty, Bob Mills, Hon. Geoff Regan, Maurice Vellacott, Mark Warawa and Jeff Watson.

 

Acting Members present: Dennis Bevington for Nathan Cullen, Raymonde Folco for Francis Scarpaleggia and Mark Holland for Hon. John Godfrey.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Sam Banks, Analyst; Tim Williams, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of the Environment: Ian Shugart, Associate Deputy Minister; David McGovern, Assistant Deputy Minister, International Affairs Branch; Mark Berman, Director, Negotiations, Climate Change International, International Affairs Branch; Normand Tremblay, Senior Advisor, Negotiations, Climate Change International. Canadian Youth Climate Coalition: Olivier Maxime Jarvis Lavoie, Member, Outreach Working Group, Canadian Youth Delegation to Bali. International Institute for Sustainable Development: John Drexhage, Director, Climate Change and Energy. World Business Council for Sustainable Development: Christopher Henderson, Managing Director, The Excel Partnership.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on November 20, 2007, the Committee resumed its study of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Conference (Bali, December 2007).
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee invite Pierre Marc Johnson, Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Ian Morton and Mary Simon, advisers to the Canadian Government, on the topic of the United Nations Framework Convention at the earliest opportunity.

 

It was agreed, — That the workplan of the Committee updated on January 25, 2008, be approved.

 

At 5:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
