The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 9:04 a.m. this day, in the Wellington Room, Victoria Inn Winnipeg, Winnipeg, Manitoba, the Chair, Norman Doyle, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Robert Carrier, Norman Doyle, Nina Grewal, Thierry St-Cyr and Hon. Andrew Telegdi.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Penny Becklumb, Analyst; Sandra Elgersma, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Manitoba Interfaith Immigration Council (Welcome Place): Martin M. Dolin, Executive Director. As an individual: Hani Al-Ubeady, Iraq International Initiative. Manitoba Federation of Labour: John Doyle, Researcher. As an individual: Kenneth Zaifman, Lawyer, Zaifman Immigration Lawyers. Canadian Society of Immigration Consultants: John Ryan, Chair; Wenda Woodman, Manager, Complaints and Discipline Department. Maple Leaf Foods Inc.: Rory McAlpine, Vice-President, Government and Industry Relations; Sandy Trudel, Economic Development Officer, City of Brandon; Nick Johnson, Vice-President, Human Resources, Commercial, and Business Support, Maple Leaf Consumer Foods; Susan Yaeger, Senior Manager, International Recruitment, Maple Leaf Consumer Foods. As an individual: Kenneth Zaifman, Lawyer, Zaifman Immigration Lawyers.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, November 22, 2007, the Committee resumed its study of Iraqi refugees.
 

Martin Dolin and Hani Al-Ubeady made statements and answered questions.

 

At 9:52 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:57 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, November 22, 2007, the Committee resumed its study of undocumented and temporary foreign workers.
 

John Doyle, Kenneth Zaifman, John Ryan, Wenda Woodman, Rory McAlpine and Sandy Trudel made statements and, with Nick Johnson and Susan Yaeger, answered questions.

 

At 11:08 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:19 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, December 11, 2007, the Committee resumed its study of Immigration Consultants.
 

Kenneth Zaifman made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 11:49 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
