The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Gary Schellenberger, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Jim Abbott, Dave Batters, Hon. Mauril Bélanger, Hon. Michael D. Chong, Ed Fast, Hon. Hedy Fry, Luc Malo, Maria Mourani, Gary Schellenberger, Hon. Andy Scott and Bill Siksay.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Geoff Regan for Francis Scarpaleggia.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Marion Ménard, Analyst; Lara Trehearne, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: As an individual: Marc Patrone, Designated as member of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC). B.C. Civil Liberties Association: Catherine Wong, Articled Student.

 

It was agreed, — That, notwithstanding the motion adopted on February 26, 2008, the Committee consider the appointment of Marc Patrone as a full-time member of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) under Standing Orders 110 and 111.

 
Pursuant to Standing Orders 110 and 111, the Committee commenced consideration of the Order in Council appointment of Marc Patrone to the position of full-time member of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) which was referred to the Committee on March 11, 2008.
 

Marc Patrone made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 4:26 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:32 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Tuesday, October 16, 2007, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-327, An Act to amend the Broadcasting Act (reduction of violence in television broadcasts).
 

Catherine Wong made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 5:17 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
