The Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities met at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Merv Tweed, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Don H. Bell, Steven Blaney, Robert Carrier, Ed Fast, Brian Jean, Peter Julian, David J. McGuinty, Brian Storseth and Merv Tweed.

 

Acting Members present: Joe Comartin for Peter Julian, Marcel Lussier for Mario Laframboise and Hon. Joe McGuire for Hon. Andy Scott.

 

In attendance: House of Commons: Samy Agha, Procedural Clerk. Library of Parliament: John Christopher, Analyst; Allison Padova, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Air Transport Association of Canada: Fred Gaspar, Vice-President, Policy and Strategic Planning. Travellers' Protection Initiative: Michael Janigan, Executive Director and General Counsel for Public Interest Advocacy Centre; Michael Pepper, President and Chief Executive Officer for Travel Industry Council of Ontario; Christiane Théberge, Vice-President, Public Affairs and GM Eastern Canada for the Association of Canadian Travel agencies (ACTA) ; Marie-Hélène Beaulieu, Option consommateurs.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Thursday, September 21, 2006, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-11, An Act to amend the Canada Transportation Act and the Railway Safety Act and to make consequential amendments to other Acts.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
