The Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities met at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Merv Tweed, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Don H. Bell, Steven Blaney, Robert Carrier, Ed Fast, Brian Jean, Peter Julian, Mario Laframboise, David J. McGuinty, Brian Storseth and Merv Tweed.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. John Godfrey for Hon. Andy Scott and Blair Wilson for Hon. Charles Hubbard.

 

In attendance: House of Commons: Samy Agha, Procedural Clerk. Library of Parliament: John Christopher, Analyst; Allison Padova, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Transportation Agency: Gilles Dufault, Acting chairman; Seymour Isenberg, Director General, Rail and Marine Branch; Joan M. MacDonald, Director General, Air and Accessible Transportation Branch.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Thursday, September 21, 2006, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-11, An Act to amend the Canada Transportation Act and the Railway Safety Act and to make consequential amendments to other Acts.
 

Gilles Dufault made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Mario Laframboise moved, — That the Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities call Mr. Jacques Duchesneau, President and CEO of the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority, to the meeting of October 5, 2006, so that he may explain the security failures noted at the Montreal Airport..

Debate arose thereon.

 

On motion of Brian Jean, it was agreed, — That the motion be amended by replacing the words “call Mr. Jacques Duchesneau, President and CEO of the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority, to meeting of October 5, 2006 so that he” with the words “invite Mr. Jacques Duchesneau, President and CEO of the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority and Mr. James Cherry, President and CEO of Aéroports de Montréal, to the meeting of October 5, 2006, or at another meeting, so that they”.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion, as amended, and it was agreed to.

 

At 5:05 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
