The Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security met in a televised session at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Garry Breitkreuz, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Maurizio Bevilacqua, Garry Breitkreuz, Gord Brown, Hon. Raymond Chan, Hon. Irwin Cotler, Laurie Hawn, Mark Holland, Dave MacKenzie, Serge Ménard and Rick Norlock.

 

Acting Members present: André Bellavance for Carole Freeman and Olivia Chow for Joe Comartin.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Wade Riordan-Raaflaub, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Security Intelligence Review Committee: Baljit Chadha, Member; Timothy Farr, Associate Executive Director; Hon. Gary Filmon, Chair; Aldéa Landry, Member; Marian McGrath, Senior Counsel; Susan Pollak, Executive Director; Roy Romanow, Member; Raymond Speaker, Member.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the Committee commenced consideration of the Main Estimates 2006-2007: Vote 25 under PRIVY COUNCIL referred to the Committee on Tuesday, April 25, 2006.
 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Thursday, October 26, 2006, the Committee commenced its study of the SIRC Annual Report 2005-2006.
 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study of the report of the Commission of Inquiry on the events relating to Maher Arar.
 

Gary Filmon made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

On motion of Mark Holland, it was agreed, — That Shirley Heafey, former Chair of the Commission for Public Complaints Against the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, be invited to appear before the Committee in relation to their Study of the report of the Commission of Inquiry on the events relating to Maher Arar.

 

At 5:34 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
