The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met in a televised session at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, the Hon. Shawn Murphy, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: David Christopherson, Brian Fitzpatrick, Jean-Yves Laforest, Mike Lake, Hon. Shawn Murphy, Pierre Poilievre, Jean-Yves Roy, Hon. Judy Sgro, David Sweet, John Williams and Borys Wrzesnewskyj.

 

Acting Members present: David J. McGuinty for Borys Wrzesnewskyj and Anthony Rota for Pablo Rodriguez.

 

In attendance: House of Commons: Gregory Tardi, Senior Parliamentary Counsel (Legal). Library of Parliament: Alex Smith, Analyst; Lydia Scratch, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Office of the Auditor General of Canada: Sheila Fraser, Auditor General of Canada; Richard Flageole, Assistant Auditor General; Paul Morse, Principal. Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Leonard J. Edwards, Deputy Minister. Passport Canada: Gérald Cossette, Chief Executive Officer; Judy Thomas, Chief Operating Officer; Gary K. McDonald, Director General, Policy and Planning.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(g), the Committee commenced consideration of Chapter 5, Passports Services - Passport Canada of February 2007 Report of the Auditor General of Canada.
 

Sheila Fraser and Leonard Edwards made opening statements and answered questions.

 

Gérald Cossette, Judy Thomas and Gary K. McDonald answered questions.

 

Borys Wrzesnewskyj moved, — That the meeting scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday, June 21, 2007, on the study of the Report of the Independent Investigator into matters relating to RCMP Pension and Insurance Plans released on June 15, 2007, be cancelled and, that it be rescheduled with the same witnesses sometime this summer to the call of the Chair.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 10; NAYS: 1.

 

At 5:17 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
