The Standing Committee on Official Languages met at 9:08 a.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Guy Lauzon, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Vivian Barbot, Sylvie Boucher, Paule Brunelle, Jean-Claude D'Amours, Yvon Godin, Guy Lauzon, Pierre Lemieux, Brian Murphy, Daniel Petit and Hon. Raymond Simard.

 

Acting Members present: Rob Anders for Luc Harvey.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Rodrigue Paré, Analyst; Élise Hurtubise-Loranger, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Statistics Canada: Jean-Pierre Corbeil, Senior Population Analyst, Demography Division; Marc Hamel, Assistant Director, Population Health Surveys, Health Statistics Division.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on September 26, 2006, the Committee resumed its study of Health in Minority Communities.
 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on September 26, 2006, the Committee resumed its study of Francophone Immigration to Minority Communities.
 

Jean-Pierre Corbeil made a statement and, with the other witness, answered questions.

 

At 10:21 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:30 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Vivian Barbot moved, — That, pursuant to section 108(2) of the Regulations, the Standing Committee on Official Languages recommend that the government continue the funding of the Court Challenges Program at the level set in fiscal 2005-2006 and that the adoption of this motion be reported in the House as soon as possible by the Chair.

Debate arose thereon.

 

Jean-Claude D'Amours moved, — That the words ”to ensure the continuation of this program“ be added after the word 2006.

At 10:43 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

After debate, the question was put on the amendment of Jean-Claude D'Amours and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 6; NAYS: 0.

 

Vivian Barbot moved, — That we the numbers 108(2) be changed for 108(3)(f).

 

After debate, the question was put on the amendment of Vivian Barbot and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 6; NAYS: 0.
