The Standing Committee on Official Languages met in camera at 8:40 a.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Guy Lauzon, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Vivian Barbot, Sylvie Boucher, Jean-Claude D'Amours, Yvon Godin, Guy Lauzon, Brian Murphy, Daniel Petit and Hon. Raymond Simard.

 

Acting Members present: Patrick Brown for Luc Harvey and Luc Malo for Paule Brunelle.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Rodrigue Paré, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Société Santé en français: Donald DesRoches, Administrator, Member of the Board of Directors, Delegate of the Minister for the acadian Businesses and French-speaking person of Prince Edward Island; Denis Fortier, Administrator, member of the Board of directors, Regional office of the health of the Center of Manitoba; Hubert Gauthier, President and Director General.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $ 132,038, for seven (7) members of the Committee to travel East to St-John's, Moncton, Sherbrooke, Toronto and Sudbury, from November 6 to November 10, 2006, be adopted and, that the Chair present the said budget to the Budget Subcommittee of the Liaison Committee.

 

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $ 136,329, for seven (7) members of the Committee to travel West to Vancouver, Edmonton, Regina and St-Boniface, from December 4 to December 8, 2006, be adopted and, that the Chair present the said budget to the Budget Subcommittee of the Liaison Committee.

 

At 9:06, the sitting was suspended.

 

At 9:11, the Committee resumed sitting in public.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on September 26, 2006, the Committee resumed its study of Health in Minority Communities.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 10:46 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
