The Standing Committee on Official Languages met at 9:10 a.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Guy Lauzon, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Vivian Barbot, Sylvie Boucher, Yvon Godin, Guy Lauzon, Pierre Lemieux, Brian Murphy, Daniel Petit and Hon. Raymond Simard.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Mauril Bélanger for Jean-Claude D'Amours, Robert Bouchard for Paule Brunelle and Bev Shipley for Luc Harvey.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Rodrigue Paré, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Steering Committee Citizenship and Immigration Canada - Francophone Minority Communities: Marc C. Arnal, Co-Chair, Community Side; Daniel Jean, Co-Chair, Government Side.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on September 26, 2006, the Committee resumed its study of Francophone Immigration to Minority Communities.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 
At 10:42, the sitting was suspended.
 

At 10:48, the Committee resumed sitting in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee pursue its studies and invite witnesses on Francophone Immigration to Minority Communities and Health in Minority Communities.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee invite Hon. Beverley Oda and Hon. Josée Verner to appear as soon as possible on the topic of budget cuts and judicial challenges.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee invite Hon. Monte Solberg and Hon. Lawrence Cannon.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee meet at 8:30 a.m. on October 5, 2006, to discuss its future business.

 

At 11:01 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
