The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 9:03 a.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Dean Allison, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, France Bonsant, Bonnie Brown, Patrick Brown, Jean-Claude D'Amours, Mike Lake, Yves Lessard, Tony Martin, Hon. Geoff Regan and Brian Storseth.

 

Acting Members present: Rick Dykstra for Lynne Yelich.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Kevin Kerr, Analyst; Chantal Collin, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Office of the Auditor General of Canada: Sheila Fraser, Auditor General; Nancy Cheng, Assistant Auditor General; Sylvain Ricard, Principal. Department of Human Resources and Social Development: Hy Braiter, Senior Assistant Deputy Minister, Service Delivery - Service Canada; Charles Nixon, Assistant Deputy Minister, Policy, Partnerships and Corporate Affairs - Service Canada; Onno Kremers, Director General, Integrity - Service Canada.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced its study of a follow-up to the Auditor General of Canada's September 2002 Status Report, Chapter 1: The Integrity of the Social Insurance Number.
 

Sheila Fraser made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 9:37 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:40 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the press release submitted, including the schedule of the public hearings on the Employability in Canada study, be published on the Committee’s website when the House provides authorization for the Committee to travel.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study of a follow-up to the Auditor General of Canada's September 2002 Status Report, Chapter 1: The Integrity of the Social Insurance Number.
 

Charles Nixon made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 10:45 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
