The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met in camera at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Yasmin Ratansi, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Patricia Davidson, Nicole Demers, Johanne Deschamps, Nina Grewal, Hon. Helena Guergis, Irene Mathyssen, Hon. Maria Minna, Hon. Anita Neville, Yasmin Ratansi, Joy Smith, Bruce Stanton and Hon. Belinda Stronach.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Julie Cool, Analyst; Marlisa Tiedemann, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee report to the House of Commons, the potential breach of privilege resulting from the release of information contained in the confidential draft report entitled “Turning Outrage into Action to Address Trafficking for the Purposes of Sexual Exploitation in Canada”, prior to its presentation to the House.

 

At 4:11 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:11 p.m., the sitting resumed in public.

 

At 4:12 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:12 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

At 4:15 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:15 p.m., the sitting resumed in public.

 

Johanne Deschamps moved, — That Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Standing Committee on the Status of Women recommend that the government make the necessary changes to the employment insurance program to eliminate its discrimination against women and that the Chair present the adoption of this motion to the House of Commons as soon as possible.

Debate arose thereon.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to on the following recorded division: YEAS: Nicole Demers, Johanne Deschamps, Irene Mathyssen, Maria Minna, Anita Neville, Belinda Stronach — 6; NAYS: Patricia Davidson, Nina Grewal, Helena Guergis, Joy Smith, Bruce Stanton — 5.

 

At 5:05 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
