The Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics met at 9:01 a.m. this day, in Room 701, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Tom Wappel, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Sukh Dhaliwal, Carole Lavallée, Pat Martin, Hon. Jim Peterson, Bruce Stanton, David Tilson, Dave Van Kesteren, Robert Vincent, Mike Wallace and Tom Wappel.

 

Acting Members present: Patricia Davidson for Scott Reid and Lloyd St. Amand for Glen Douglas Pearson.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Kristen Douglas, Analyst; Lydia Scratch, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada: Jennifer Stoddart, Privacy Commissioner; Tom Pulcine, Director General and Chief Financial Officer, Corporate Services Branch; Wayne Watson, Director General, Investigation and Inquiries Branch.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the Committee commenced consideration of the Main Estimates 2007-2008: Vote 45 (Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada) under JUSTICE referred to the Committee on Tuesday, April 25th 2007.
 

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, — That the letter from the Honourable Stockwell Day, dated April 19, 2007 to the Chair of the Committee, be attached to the dissenting opinion of the Conservative Party, annexed to the 4th Report of the Committee.

 

Jennifer Stoddart made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 11:01 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
