The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 11:05 a.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Norman Doyle, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Omar Alghabra, Dave Batters, Norman Doyle, Meili Faille, Raymond Gravel, Nina Grewal, Hon. Jim Karygiannis, Ed Komarnicki, Bill Siksay, Hon. Andrew Telegdi and Blair Wilson.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Penny Becklumb, Analyst; Margaret Young, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee adopt the 9th Report of the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure:

The Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure of the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration agreed:

That, in relation to its study on the Loss of Canadian Citizenship, the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration:

— Consider its draft report as its first item of business in the fall of 2007; and;

— That meetings regarding this study be held outside the Committee’s usual meeting times, unless the Committee decides otherwise.

That, in relation to its study on Bill C-57, the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration:

— Invite departmental officials to provide a briefing; and,

— That the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure select other witnesses.

That, in relation to its studies on Undocumented and Temporary Foreign Workers, the Points System, Iraqi Refugees, and Immigration Consultants:

— All members of the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration travel to Burnaby, British Columbia; Whistler, British Columbia; Calgary, Alberta; Fort McMurray, Alberta; Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan; Winnipeg, Manitoba; Scarborough, Ontario, Mississauga, Ontario; Vaudreuil-Dorion, Quebec; and one city in Atlantic Canada from October 15, 2007 to October 26, 2007.

That, in relation to its study on Iraqi Refugees, the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration:

— Invite organizational representatives to appear before the Committee in Ottawa..

 

At 12:37 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
