The Standing Committee on International Trade met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Leon Benoit, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Guy André, Leon Benoit, Ron Cannan, Helena Guergis, Peter Julian, John Maloney, Ted Menzies, Pierre A. Paquette and Lui Temelkovski.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Denis Coderre for Hon. Dominic LeBlanc, Roger Valley for Hon. Mark Eyking and Jeff Watson for Pierre Lemieux.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Peter Berg, Analyst; Michael Holden, Analyst; Elizabeth Kuruvila, Analyst. Standing Committee on International Trade: Alexandre Roger, Co-Clerk of the Committee.

 

Witnesses: Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (International Trade): Ian Burney, Chief Trade Negotiator, Bilateral and Regional; Marvin Hildebrand, Director, Bilateral Market Access Division; Gilles Gauthier, Director , Investment Trade Policy Division; Pamela Simpson, Deputy Director, Regional Trade Policy Division. Department of Agriculture and Agri-Food: Denis Landreville, Deputy Director, Regional and Bilateral Negotiations. Department of Human Resources and Social Development: Anthony Giles, Director General, Human Resources and Skills Development Canada .

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced its study of Trade Agreement between Canada and Republic of South Korea.
 

Ian Burney made a statement and, with Marvin Hildebrand and Gilles Gauthier, answered questions.

 

Pierre A. Paquette moved, — That the Committee on International Trade prepare a report including recommendations to the government regarding the Canada-US softwood lumber framework agreement based on the testimony it has heard and table this report in the House.

Debate arose thereon.

 

Helena Guergis moved, — And the the report be structured into sections to include; litigation, stability, job losses and the return of duties.

Debate arose thereon.

 

After debate, the question was put on the amendment of Helena Guergis and it was negatived, by a show of hands: YEAS: 4; NAYS: 7.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 7; NAYS: 4.

 

At 4:43 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
