The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met in a televised session at 9:06 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Gary Schellenberger, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Charlie Angus, Diane Bourgeois, Gord Brown, Hon. Hedy Fry, Tina Keeper, Maka Kotto, Francis Scarpaleggia, Gary Schellenberger, Hon. Andy Scott and Chris Warkentin.

 

Acting Members present: Leon Benoit for Ed Fast and Larry Miller for Jim Abbott.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Marion Ménard, Analyst; Matthew Carnaghan, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Centre d'études sur les médias: Florian Sauvageau, Director. As an individual: Renaud Gilbert, former Ombudsman, French Services, Radio-Canada.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order108(2), the Committee resumed its full investigation of the role of a public broadcaster in the 21st century
 

Florian Sauvageau and Renaud Gilbert made statements and, answered questions.

 

At 10:34 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:39 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Tina Keeper moved, — That pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage review the appointment of Mr. Timothy Casgrain as Chair of the Board of the CBC-Radio Canada.

Debate arose thereon.

 

Chris Warkentin moved, — That the motion be amended by replacing the word “108(2)” with the word “110(1)”.

 

The question was put on the amendment of Chris Warkentin and it was negatived, by a show of hands: YEAS: 3; NAYS: 7.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 7; NAYS: 3.

 

At 11:02 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
