The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met in a televised session at 3:33 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Gary Schellenberger, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Jim Abbott, Charlie Angus, Hon. Mauril Bélanger, Sylvie Boucher, Ed Fast, Maka Kotto, Luc Malo, Gary Schellenberger, Scott Simms and Chris Warkentin.

 

Acting Members present: Rodger Cuzner for Ruby Dhalla and Mario Silva for Francis Scarpaleggia.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Matthew Carnaghan, Analyst; Marion Ménard, Analyst. House of Commons: Roger Préfontaine, Procedural Clerk.

 

Appearing: Hon. Bev Oda, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Status of Women.

 

Witnesses: Department of Canadian Heritage: Judith A. LaRocque, Deputy Minister; Bruce Manion, Assistant Deputy Minister, Planning and Corporate Management.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced its study of Policies and Priorities of the Department of Canadian Heritage.
 

The Minister made an openning statement and answered questions.

 

At 4:30 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:40 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Mauril Bélanger moved, — That the Committee recommend that the Minister of the Canadian Heritage share with CBC/SRC Management its concerns vis-a-vis some of the structural changes made before the proposed review of the CBC/SRC mandate is completed.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 6; NAYS: 4.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee adopt to the following schedule of meetings :

Tuesday June 6 : Committee review of the Canada Travelling Exhibitions Indemnification Act (Order of Reference from the House dated April 25, 2006

Thursday June 8 : Meeting on GATS negociations

Tuesday June 13 : Reports of the Auditor General of Canada, chapter 5, November 2005 and chapter 6, November 2003

Thursday June 15 : Hon. Josée Verner, Minister for la Francophonie and Official languages

Tuesday June 20 : CBC-Radio-Canada

Thursday June 22 : Hon. Bev Oda Minister of Canadian Heritage and Status of Women.

 

At 5:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
