The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 9:05 a.m. this day, in Room 536, Wellington Building, the Chair, Gerry Ritz, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: David Anderson, Alex Atamanenko, André Bellavance, James Bezan, Ken Boshcoff, Hon. Wayne Easter, Jacques Gourde, Larry Miller, Gerry Ritz, Jean-Yves Roy, Paul Steckle and Hon. Robert Thibault.

 

Acting Members present: Brian Storseth for Larry Miller.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Denis Fréchette, Principal.

 

Witnesses: Agricultural Producers Association of Saskatchewan: Ken McBride, President; Marvin Shauf, Policy Manager. Canadian Seed Trade Association: Jeff Reid, Second Vice-President.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study of Canadian Grain Commission.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, — That the meetings of October 4, 2006, and the study on the Imports of Milk Protein Concentrates planned on October 18, 2006, be postponed to a later time.

 

Alex Atamanenko moved, — That the Agriculture Policy Framework II Stakeholder Reference Group present a status report to the Agriculture Committee.

Debate arose thereon.

 

After debate, by unanimous consent, the motion was withdrawn.

 

Alex Atamanenko moved, — That the committee discuss the possibility of hosting a round table with various farm organizations asking them to explain the causes of the 21 year, global farm income crisis. This could be followed up a few days later asking them to lay out the solutions.

Debate arose thereon.

 

After debate, by unanimous consent, the motion was withdrawn.

 

At 11:02 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
