The Subcommittee on International Trade, Trade Disputes and Investment of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met in camera at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 209 West Block, the Chair, John Cannis, presiding.

 

Members of the Subcommittee present: John Cannis, Hon. Mark Eyking, Hon. Marlene Jennings, Peter Julian, Ted Menzies and Pierre A. Paquette.

 

Acting Members present: Deepak Obhrai for Ted Menzies.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Peter Berg, Analyst; Blayne Haggart, Analyst; Michael Holden, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: C.D. Howe Institute: Danielle Goldfarb, Senior Policy Analyst. Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters: Jayson Myers, Senior Vice-President and Chief Economist. Scotiabank: Patrick Rooney, Senior Vice-President, Trade Finance and Correspondent Banking. As an Individual: David Wheeler, Erivan K. Haub Professor of Business and Sustainability, Schulich School of Business, York University.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Subcommittee resumed its study on Emerging Market Trade Strategy.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:08 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:11 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Subcommittee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Subcommittee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Subcommittee seek the permission of the House to travel to Vancouver for two (2) days in the fall of 2005 in relation to its study on Softwood Lumber.

 

At 5:37 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 6:18 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

The Subcommittee commenced consideration of a draft report on NAFTA.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair present the draft report to the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade as its First Feport.

 

At 6:57 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
