The Standing Committee on Health met at 9:08 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Bonnie Brown, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Bonnie Brown, Hon. Brenda Chamberlain, Jean Crowder, Ruby Dhalla, Steven John Fletcher, James Lunney, Rob Merrifield and Hon. Robert Thibault.

 

Acting Members present: Nicole Demers for Marcel Gagnon, John Maloney for Michael John Savage and Mark Warawa for Colin Carrie.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Nancy Miller Chenier, Analyst; Sonya Norris, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Health: Diane Gorman, Assistant Deputy Minister, Health Products and Food Branch; Susan Gardner-Barclay, Director General, Office of Consumer and Public Involvement, Health Products and Food Branch; Siddika Mithani, Formerly Associate Director General, Therapeutic Products Directorate, Health Products and Food Branch and Director General Veterinary Drugs Directorate, Health Products and Food Branch. Public Health Agency of Canada: Vivian Ellis, Senior Policy Advisor and Acting Manager, Integrated Chronic Disease Policy, Centre for Chronic Disease Prevention and Control.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, May 19, 2005, the Committee resumed its study on silicone gel-filled breast implants.
 

Diane Gorman made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 11:01 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
