Ottawa, October 28, 2005 -

The House of Commons Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade announces that as part of its study of Canada’s International Policy Statement: A Role of Pride and Influence in the World, it will hold a public hearing in Montreal, on Thursday, November 3, 2005 (9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.) and on Friday, November 4, 2005 (9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.) at the Université du Québec à Montréal, 450 Ste-Catherine Est, niveau Métro, Studio-Théâtre Alfred-Laliberté.

The Committee plans to hold cross-country hearings for its study during the next few weeks, with an aim of hearing the views of as many Canadians as possible on the issues raised by the Government’s International Policy Statement, which was tabled in Parliament on 19 April 2005.

The input from these hearings will contribute to the Committee’s final recommendations and report to Parliament.
